QOTD

Remember two matters and forget two matters: Remember Allah and death; forget any good that you have done to another and any evil that was done to you by another.

Tagine of Kefta, Tomatoes and Egg

Here is my attempt at a Moroccan tagine dish.

Meatballs
700g lamb mince
3 cloves crushed garlic
1 tsp each ground coriander and paprika
1/2 tspall spice
1 tbsp chopped fresh coriander
Sea salt and freshly ground black pepper
Olive oil
4 eggs
1 tbsp chopped fresh parsley

Sauce
400g tin chopped tomatoes
1 tbsp tomato puree
1 tbsp honey
1/2 cup hot water
salt and pepper

1) Combine mince, garlic, spices and fresh coriander in a bowl and knead until smooth. season with salt and pepper.
2) Mould around 24-32 walnut sized portions into balls and set aside on a tray.
3) Heat oil in a large frying pan and fry meatballs until golden brown all over (do in 2-3 batches).
Meatballs being browned
Place meatballs in the base of a pan or tagine/casserole pot.
4) Combine all the sauce ingredients in a bowl, seasoning with salt and pepper.
5) Pour tomato sauce over browned meatballs. Bring to the boil, then simmer on the stove top or bake in an oven heated to 180oc for 20 mins, stirring once to prevent sticking.
Allow meatballs to cook in tomato sauce

6) Break eggs into the sauce and continue cooking for 5-10 mins until eggs are just set. scatter with parsley and serve with bread and salad.
Tagine of Kefta, tomatoes and egg!
Note: If you would like your meal a bit spicy, add chilli flakes, paprika and maybe chilli powder in the meatball mix. You can also add a sprinkle of chilli flakes in the sauce.
Recipe from "Made in Morocco: A journey of exotic tastes and places"

I served with a Turkish salad which I made using 3 tomatoes, 1/4 cucumber deseeded and cut, chopped red onion that had lemon squeezed over it and a bit of sumac sprinkled on top, fresh chopped parsley, olives and pomegranate molasses.

Vitality Show 2013

Hi, just a quick post about the Vitality show that took place in Earl's Court March 2013!

The show took place over 4 days and we went on the weekend. The guy who took our tickets (Spencer Matthews from Made in Chelsea look-a-like) was kinda rude and when we first walked in, we couldn't see any fellow hijabis :( but saw 6-7 later on. The majority of the people there were 30+.

There were workshops where you could do yoga workouts or listen to talks and lots of different stalls for beauty, food and well being etc. They even had a few stalls selling hijabs (but you can get them for half or a third of the price elsewhere).

They gave out free goody bags with random items if you filled in a form:

It consisted of:
  • Sakata Japanese rice crackers in sour cream and chive
  • Loreal shampoo and conditioner sample
  • Belvita yogurt crunch
  • Sprite
  • Nivea Pure & Natural sample
  • Sudocream sample
  • Hermesetas sweetener pack
  • Tate & Lyle Half spoon 20g :S
  • 2 Coffee sachets
Vitality Show goody bag.
A different flavour in the Vitality show goody bag that my sis got- Roast tomato and balsamic.
They had a lovely stall selling bath products which reminded me of Lush. One of their displays was set out like a vintage tea party/cake stand. SO cute! Its called BOMB Cosmetics and their products are "natural and home made".

Bath time tea party?
Bath melts. Look like cupcakes right?
Scrubs and polishes
Other stalls included nail/brow bars, vegan cakes and breads, bakhour/oud, olives and baklava, Samina pure make up, teeth whitening, diary free "milk", jewellery, healthy snacks, you could also get your BMI tested and have a go on this exercise machine that vibrates your legs.

They also had a tooth whitening stall which I shall write about another day Insha Allah.

Did any of you go? Would you go in the future?

Nails: Facets of Fuchsia

For this look, I used Revlon's Ruby Fruit (as seen in the 2 nails in the back) as a base which is a dark plum colour, and then 2 coats of Max Factor's Facets of Fuchsia which is like a light black jelly with purple glitter.

What do you think? (Sorry for the unclear pic, was taken on my old phone). Google has clearer images.
